This holiday season, Travelocity wants you to "Take a Vacation from Your Vacation"

63% of Americans feel stress while spending time with family during the holidays. Travelocity data shows that during the period between Thanksgiving and Christmas, fewer travelers head to popular international beach destinations like Cancun, Punta Cana and Cozumel, than most other times of the year.

DALLAS – Spending time with extended family can be one of the best parts of the holiday season, but it can also be one of the most stressful. While traveling should be relaxing and refreshing, according to a recent Travelocity survey, 63% of Americans surveyed find that spending time with extended family during the holiday season actually creates stress in their lives. With many reports showing that on average1, Americans only use about three-quarters of their allotted vacation days, the period between Thanksgiving and Christmas is the perfect time to take advantage of those unused days and take “a vacation from your vacation.”

Travelocity data shows that during the period between Thanksgiving and Christmas, fewer travelers head to popular international beach destinations like Cancun, Punta Cana and Cozumel, than most other times of the year. This translates to more choices, smaller crowds, and with the average December 15th high temperature being 37 degrees in Chicago, and 82 degrees in Cancun, perfect weather for a winter beach escape.

“While spending time with family during the holidays is an important and enjoyable part of the season, it can be stressful as well. Adding a couple of days to the family holiday celebration for a beach getaway can be just the ticket for a holiday full of both reconnections and relaxation,” said Brad Wilson, vice president and general manager, Travelocity. “At Travelocity, we have the tools that make it easy to find and book the best deals on beach packages.”

While searching for that perfect winter getaway, Travelocity customers can ensure that they don’t lose that perfect itinerary with the “Scratchpad” feature. Scratchpad automatically saves searched itineraries, updates them with the most current pricing and allows them to then be easily recalled by customers.

“By studying how customers searched for travel, we found that they would manually write down different itineraries with the hope of finding them later – only to be frustrated by not being able to recall these travel plans, and even when they did, often be surprised by price changes,” continued Wilson. “Leveraging the powerful technology that drives the Travelocity website, Scratchpad makes travel shopping easier, faster, and far more enjoyable.”
