With global travel bookings trending upward Sabre<.> certainly expects bookings in the fourth quarter to be closer to 20 percent down year over year, rather than 30 percent down. Headquartered in Dallas/Fort Worth, Texas, Sabre now forecasts fourth quarter earnings per share, excluding special items, in the US $0.00 to $0.05 range, higher than previous expectations. Narrowing its fourth quarter, Sabre said in an announcement that 2001 revenue expectation to US $415 million to some US $430 million, from a previous US $380 million to US $430 million range in earlier scenarios.

The fourth quarter guidance reflects the short-term realities of the travel market, along with the impact from the seasonally slower bookings quarter, and the company's customer relief efforts undertaken in recent months. With booking volumes expected to remain down in 2002, Sabre, which has approximately 6,000 employees in 45 countries, recently completed significant expense reductions and cost avoidance of approximately US $100 million. This included expense reductions in several areas, including headcount, contract labor, and advertising and promotion.
