LONDON – The Global Business Travel Association (GBTA) and Project ICARUS recently announced the winners of the second European Sustainability Outstanding Achievement Awards at GBTA Conference 2014 Berlin.

The awards recognize travel buyers, suppliers, intermediaries and teams who can demonstrate outstanding leadership, innovation and commitment to delivering best-in-class sustainability programs, products and services across Europe.

“The quality of entries exceeded our expectation, once again, and clearly demonstrates that companies across Europe are seeing sustainable business travel and meetings programs as a sure way to optimize travel costs, and generate a significant return on investment,” said Bernard Harrop, head of sustainability for Project ICARUS.

The winners in each category are:
Travel Buyer: Volvo
Travel Supplier: Scandic Hotels
Travel Supplier, Intermediaries: Portman

The winners were presented with their Project ICARUS bronze trophy at the GBTA Conference 2014 Berlin held on 12-14 November at the Maritim Hotel in Berlin.

GBTA Announces 2014 Winner of Luoma Award
GBTA also announced Mark Cuschieri, Executive Director, Global Travel Lead – UBS,  as the recipient of the 2014 Luoma Award last week at GBTA Conference 2014 Berlin.

The GBTA Europe Luoma Award is named after Jutta Luoma, the Executive Director of the Finnish Business Travel Association who retired three years ago. It reflects the attributes of Luoma.

The Luoma Award recognizes individuals who work as volunteers to support the development of GBTA and its local market partners in Europe; work in the best interests of the GBTA Europe’s members and the business travel industry; are independent-minded and prepared to speak out; challenge issues within the sector, both publicly and privately; and provide direction for European travel and meetings management.

“Mark was chosen to receive this award in recognition for his contribution to both GBTA and its UK & Ireland partner association ITM,” said Torbjorn Erling, chair of the GBTA Europe Advisory Board. “He has played an active role in both associations while also championing them within his own internal travel community and the financial sector with which his company engages. Mark has been particularly engaged and forthright with regards to IATA’s NDC project and was a key contributor to helping GBTA respond to IATA’s Resolution 787 in 2013/2014.”

The award was presented at the GBTA Conference 2014 Berlin on 14 November at the Maritim Hotel in Berlin.
