City breaks have become just as popular as beach holidays for Britons

Most people go on a city break for three to four days, meaning that there is no need to take a family sized suitcase, a piece of cabin luggage will do perfectly.

The UK’s leading travel association, ABTA, announced last year that city breaks have become just as popular as beach holidays, with 41% of the British public going on one in the 12 months leading up to August 2013. It is also estimated that the popularity of city breaks will continue to grow in 2014, and will still sit at the top of the holiday table. Given this report, travel retailers Mrluggage.com take a look at the different types of cabin luggage available and how to pack to tailor for a city break.

City breaks are popular for a number of reasons, mainly because they don’t require a lot of time off work, cities are jam-packed full of history and culture, and they offer something to suit all tastes.

Most people go on a city break for three to four days, meaning that there is no need to take a family sized suitcase, a piece of cabin luggage will do perfectly. However, cabin friendly luggage comes in a range of sizes; 16inch, 18inch and 20inch, different airlines do have different allowances, so it is always best to check first. Choosing cabin luggage also means that airlines won’t charge extra for suitcases.

They are also available in both hard and soft shell, and although hard shell is considered to be more protective, when it comes to keeping within the airlines weight allowances it is best to stick to soft shell. Softer cabin cases are usually lighter meaning there is more leeway to what can be packed, and can be easily squashed down to comfortably fit into the overhead cabin bins.

Wheeled cabin luggage is also a must as they are much easier to transport, especially as some inner city hotels have strict check-in and check-out times, and wheeling a suitcase around is a lot less tiring and awkward than carrying a case.
