Countries where the casino industry is on the rise

Macau

Obviously the digital revolution has taken its toll on land-based casinos as more people prefer gambling online that offer free play slots at Thor Slots than actually visiting a bricks and mortar casino establishment.

Traditional casinos have been around for centuries. In fact the first casinos appeared in Italy in the 17th Century. The Ridotto was established in Venice in 1638 and provided a controlled gambling environment for its citizens. By the 19th century casinos started to appear throughout Europe and these gambling venues also spread around the globe.

Even before the first casino was created, gambling was in evidence in Ancient civilizations. The Ancient Greeks and even the Romans all indulged in gambling games. Now, so-called traditional casinos have become well established across the world where gambling is legal and are still going strong today. In fact gambling is more mainstream than it has ever been and there are a couple of hot spots that have become world famous as gambling venues and these casino resorts have helped boost the local economy. The biggest casino resorts can be found in Las Vegas and Macau.

Obviously the digital revolution has taken its toll on land-based casinos as more people prefer gambling online that offer free play slots at Thor Slots than actually visiting a bricks and mortar casino establishment. However, some countries continue to buck the trend and land-based casino popularity continues to rise.

Macau the new Vegas
Macau on the south cost of China continues to give Las Vegas a run for its money when it comes to being the world’s top gambling resort. Macau is basically the far-east version of Las Vegas. Macau was previously a Portuguese colony but over the decades it has become a vibrant city and a gambler’s paradise. Macau now surpasses Vegas in the revenue stakes and this is down to the stunning gambling settings and impressively designed casinos. Macau returned to Chinese rule in 1999 but it still has separate laws and regulations to the mainland of China. This has helped the casinos go from strength to strength, as gambling is legal here. The casinos in Macau also attract many high rollers and VIP gamblers have luxury rooms especially designed for the ultimate gambling experience. These rooms offer exclusive high stakes games and tournaments to VIP customers who are responsible for up to 70% of the total revenue from Macau casinos.

Atlantic City
Another Vegas alternative that is a lot closer to the iconic gambling city than Macau is Atlantic City. The gambling industry and casinos in general have been on the rise in Atlantic City for some time. Great beaches and stunning hotels help to add another layer to this hugely popular, gambling destination.

London
It’s hardly surprising to see the UK figure in a list of countries where casinos are still booming. The British public love to gamble and the UK is the home of two of the most famous horse racers on the planet. Away from racing, London has a thriving casino scene with more than 20 casinos scattered around the city. World famous Poker tournaments regularly visit London and the city is also home to The Ritz Club and the Hippodrome Casinos.
