Autograph Collection Hotels debuts in Portland, Oregon

Striking a balance of raw and refined, the highly-anticipated boutique hotel brings an elevated sense of style to downtown Portland.

BETHESDA, MD. – Autograph Collection Hotels, Marriott International's distinctive collection of independent hotels, announced its debut in Oregon with the opening of Hi-Lo Hotel. Situated in the historic Oregon Pioneer Building in downtown Portland, the highly-anticipated boutique hotel was selected by Autograph Collection Hotels because it shares the brand's values of vision, design and craft, and offers an immersive guest experience. Built in 1910, the Oregon Pioneer Building – originally named The Railway Express Building – was the city's iconic first concrete building, which became known as Project Cinderella when it was revived in 1962, serving as a catalyst to restore historic buildings in downtown.

"We are thrilled to welcome Hi-Lo Hotel to Autograph Collection Hotels' dynamic portfolio as the brand's first hotel in Oregon," said Julius Robinson, Vice President and Global Brand Lead, Autograph Collection Hotels. "With its rich history and authentic, compelling design concept, we believe the hotel is poised to deliver standout, exactly like nothing else experiences for both global travelers and Portland locals alike."

Designed by the accomplished team of internationally-renowned Orlando Diaz-Azcuy Design Associates, Arris Studio Architects, and Portland-based groups OMFGC and Jessica Helgerson Interior Design, Hi-Lo Hotel invites guests to engage in elevated style true to the Pacific Northwest. Both elegant and effortless, the notion of mixing the "high" and the "low" is carefully imbued into every facet of the hotel, creating a sense of dynamic warmth and liveliness. From its spectacular public spaces to the organic, modern art and locally-sourced furniture found throughout the hotel, the thoughtful design concept perfectly accentuates the aesthetic of the historic building.

Located in the heart of downtown Portland, the city's most lush hotel reflects the Oregonian landscape and is both raw and refined, resulting in a unique balance of opposites that welcomes those seeking an authentic Portland experience. Each of the 120 guest rooms and suites are outfitted with modern organic furnishings and local handcrafted bathroom amenities by Maak Lab featuring a custom scent designed exclusively for Hi-Lo Hotel.

Locals and travelers may wander into Hi-Lo Hotel for a hand-crafted cocktail at the Lo Bar or dine at the hotel's esteemed restaurant, Alto-Bajo. The restaurant will serve modern Mexican in an upscale setting and is sure to draw in foodies interested in contemporary twists and traditional flavors. Helmed by Michelin starred Moto alum Chef Chip Barnes, the restaurant features a menu developed in collaboration with famed Oaxacan Chef Iliana de la Vega. Both chefs have perfected the balance of classic Mexican cuisine with innovative accents and flare.

"We are pleased to invite guests to discover the talent and flavor of downtown Portland through our authentic cuisine, profound history, and collection of regional art," said Eric Paul, General Manager, Hi-Lo Hotel. "Set in a truly iconic building, Hi-Lo Hotel was thoughtfully designed to bring guests on a journey of local experiences throughout their stay, highlighting the city's unique vibrancy and unmistakable opulence."

Hi-Lo Hotel caters to business travelers with ample meeting space, state-of-the-art technology, and forward-thinking business solutions. Guests will also enjoy complimentary Wi-Fi, mobile check-in, in-room entertainment systems outfitted with Netflix and a variety of apps, daily newspaper delivery, and a 24-hour state-of-the-art fitness center. Additionally, the hotel will welcome four-legged travelers with special amenities through a partnership with a local dog bakery.

A dynamic and culturally-rich destination, the city of Portland offers an abundance of natural trails and rose gardens for hiking and exploring, vibrant local art exhibits, and a lively local food scene. Inaugural guests to Hi-Lo Hotel are invited to experience an Exactly Like Nothing Else Package – HIgh Fashion + LOcal Design. This partnership between Portland's top fashion designers and the hotel allows guests to collaborate with one of the city's cutting-edge designers to create bespoke, customized clothing for their personal wardrobe.
