Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants unveils its newly renovated wine-themed hotel vintage in downtown portland

The hotel welcomes guests with a new two-story lobby space, bringing the story of Oregon wine to life with light fixtures reminiscent of grape clusters, an area rug with an aerial view depicting the Willamette Valley.

Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants has unveiled a new version of the iconic Hotel Vintage, with a $16 million transformation and redesign. The theme of Oregon wine is dominant throughout the hotel as each of the 117 newly renovated guest rooms are named after an Oregon winery, emphasising the hotel’s commitment to the Willamette Valley and local vintners who pour each evening at the hotel’s hosted wine reception.

To mark this grand reopening, the Hotel Vintage Portland has created a variety of opening offers all themed around the wine story including ‘Love the Wine Your With’, ‘Que Syrah Syrah’ and ‘Sip Into Something More Comfortable.’

The hotel welcomes guests with a new two-story lobby space, bringing the story of Oregon wine to life with light fixtures reminiscent of grape clusters, an area rug with an aerial view depicting the Willamette Valley, a life-size picture of Bacchus the God of Wine and a wineology chalkboard that shows how an Oregon grape becomes Oregon wine.

Guests can entertain themselves at the hotel’s game room where a pool table, shuffleboard and two video game consoles give guests the perfect way to enjoy the nightly hosted wine hour or rent out for a private event. For guests who prefer the ground floor, Bacchus Bar is the newest brainchild of Pazzo Ristorante. The 60-seat lobby bar, open 4pm – 11pm (with Happy Hour 4pm – 6pm daily where food items are half price) shows off a cutting-edge cocktail menu including an Italian take on classic whisky drinks such as the Amaro Sour and Bitered Julep.

“We couldn’t be more proud to uncork this extraordinary transformation,” said Tom Waithe, regional director of Operations for Kimpton Hotels of the Pacific Northwest. “This is so much more than a renovation; this is a brand new hotel. What a great opportunity to take this pinnacle of Portland and embrace the Oregon wine story. Our guests will have a true local wine experience from the moment they walk through our doors.”

Seattle based Dawson Design Associates transformed the hotel, inspired by the bohemian aspect of Portland as well as the Oregon wine story. The guestrooms embody the richness of wine with a deep red couch, a vibrant purple accent wall, and besides lamps inspired by heat lamps used to keep grapes from freezing. More than 105,000 recycled wine corks make up 73 one-of-a-kind art pieces depicting a face in each of the hotel’s guestrooms.

The Hotel Vintage Portland has partnered with 117 wineries in the Willamette Valley, featuring two wines in each respective dedicated guest room and on the in-room dining menu. Every partner will pour at the nightly wine hour at least once a quarter. The wineries involved include Adelsheim, Ponzi, Rex Hill, Love and Squalor and many more.
