Middle aged holidaymakers are showing off what they’ve got.
New research of over 10,000 respondents shows the top 10 activities that middle-aged Britons admit they love to do on holiday but wouldn’t dream of doing at home. Almost a quarter (23%) feel brave enough to talk to total strangers on public transport, 17% go for drinks with people they’ve just met, while 12% admit to staying out all night.
Over-50s Britons are leaving body image and fashion woes on the aeroplane – from stripping off on nudist beaches to proudly donning bum bags and Hawaiian shorts.
Other middle-aged confessions that didn’t quite make the top 10 include peeing in a swimming pool, using selfie sticks and wearing ‘souvenir’ t-shirts.
Top 10 middle-aged holiday habits:
1. Chat with total strangers on public transport (23%)
2. Wear swimwear all day (18%)
3. Have a drink with a stranger (17%)
4. Try scary new foods – e.g. insects (16%)
5. Eat ice cream every day (13%)
6. Stay out late all night (12%)
7. Wear a bum bag (10%)
8. Bare all on a nudist beach (6%)
9. Wear a Hawaiian style shirt or shorts (6%)
10. Have a one night stand (6%)
The survey also looked at top holiday guilty pleasures. More than one in five (22 per cent) can’t resist taking advantage of hotel freebies, while four out of ten (40 per cent) will consider a holiday as an excuse to have a few more drinks than usual. Seven per cent also consider leaving the kids behind a top guilty pleasure.
