Norwegian has selected Boeing’s Dreamliner for the airline’s future long-haul operations. Norwegian entered into a Letter of Intent to lease two new Boeing 787-8 Dreamliners from International Lease Finance Corporation, ILFC. By securing the Dreamliner Norwegian will operate the newest generation of aircraft, especially designed to meet the passengers’ demand for better comfort and a more environmentally friendly means of transportation.
Norwegian will take delivery of the aircraft starting fall 2012. The lease term for both aircraft is 12 years. The Letter of Intent is entered into as a part of Norwegian’s set up for long-haul operations.
“This is an important milestone for Norwegian as we have now decided to use the Dreamliner for our long-haul operations. The Dreamliner is an aircraft for the future as it offers a new, improved passenger experience and comfort in addition to reducing operating costs. Lower fuel consumption also makes the aircraft the most environmentally friendly of its kind on the market,” said CEO Bjorn Kjos of Norwegian.
California based ILFC is one of the world’s largest leasing companies with more than 1000 aircraft. The company has an existing order of 74 Dreamliners with Boeing. Norwegian already has ties with ILFC through a leasing deal of three Boeing 737-800 aircraft and one 737-300.
