Prestige introduces the Aeolian Islands and more holiday choices in Sicily for 2014

The captivating Aeolian archipelago nestled between the North East coast of Sicily and the toe of Calabria in mainland Italy is an exciting addition for next summer.

Prestige Holidays has expanded its holiday selection in Sicily. New for 2014 are the magical Aeolian Islands, a charming B&B in the Baroque town of Ragusa in the South East and a self-drive Montalbano tour taking in key sights from the TV detective series. The operator has also added a boutique hotel in Palermo, new hotels in Castellammare and San Vito Lo Capo on the exotic West coast and a stylish boutique hotel in the resort of Taormina.

David Skillicorn, General Manager for Prestige Holidays, comments: “Every property featured in the Sicily programme has been hand picked by our Italian expert who has been visiting the island for 35 years. He speaks the language and has included a few hidden gems as well as some more main stream hotels. He also gives a number of tips throughout the brochure to help clients make the most of their holiday and is happy to tailor make itineraries for those seeking something extra special or off the beaten track.”

The captivating Aeolian archipelago nestled between the North East coast of Sicily and the toe of Calabria in mainland Italy is an exciting addition for next summer. A unique destination with no less than eight islands, it is volcanic in origin and listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Prestige Holidays is featuring two islands: Lipari the largest and, slightly further afield, the enchanting and uncommercialised island of Salina – a real ‘no shoes no news’ destination, perfect for lovers of nature!  The attractions of Vulcano with its mud baths and extinct volcanoes, the trendy Panarea and Stromboli, home to the most active volcano in Europe, can all be visited on day trips from either island.

In Lipari Prestige Holidays is featuring the three star Hotel Rocce Azzurre. Located in a superb position by the waterfront, this 33-room hotel is furnished in a traditional Sicilian style and is only a ten-minute stroll from the centre.

On Salina Prestige Holidays offers the idyllic Capofaro Malavasia & Resort.  Owned by the prestigious wine producers Tasca D’Almerita and set amongst vineyards, the hotel features just 20 rooms, which are dispersed in the picturesque grounds.

Prestige Holidays’ seven night self-drive Montalbano Experience visits the gorgeous baroque jewels of Scicli and Ragusa, which frequently feature in the Montalbano detective series set in the beautiful South East of Sicily.

Holidaymakers can indulge in a plate of seafood pasta at ‘Caffe Millenium’ in the piazza in front of Montalbano’s police station (actually the town hall in Scicli) and visit Ragusa and see the sites of the many of investigative scenes and house calls featured in the show. The itinerary also suggests a drive down to the coastline at Punta Secca where Montalbano’s house is located.

In the fascinating Sicilian capital, Palermo, the operator is featuring the 32 room four star Hotel Principe Di Villa Franca. This property is ideal for those needing a peaceful base from which to discover the arts, treasures and exotic markets of this magnificent city.

Both the fascinating fishing town of Castellammare and the Wild West beach resort of San Vito Lo Capo receive stand-alone sections in the new brochure. New in Castellammare are two small three star properties: the Hotel Punta Nord Est and the Hotel Al Madarig.  The 57 roomed Hotel Punta Nord Est is in an elevated position and offers great views of the town and coast and the 38 room Hotel Al Madarig can be found in the heart of the town’s historic centre.

The four star Hotel Capo San Vito is in a great location in the laid back town of San Vito Lo Capo, opposite a stunning white sand beach said to be the best in Sicily! San Vito with its unique Arabic charm and amazing selection of eateries and bars is just a short stroll away.

In the sophisticated resort of Taormina in the North East of the island Prestige Holidays has added the four star Villa Angela. This popular home from home offers a taste of the “real” Sicily with stunning views and charming rooms furnished in an authentic Sicilian style.

Holidaymakers seeking an “experience” style break should book a stay at one of the four agritourism properties featured in the brochure. Here guests can enjoy gastronomic packages that feature hands on cookery courses, wine and olive oil tasting and special dinners. Prestige Holidays is offering four multi-centre holidays and will tailor-make breaks in any combination of resorts and any length of stay.
