CHICAGO – Travelers are going out of their way to travel green according to a recent survey conducted by The GO Group, LLC, an international ground transportation service provider and GO Airport Express, a GO member and Chicago-based ground transportation company serving O’Hare International and Midway airports.
More than 300 travelers were asked to indicate how they traveled “green.” Topping the list at 45 percent was packing lighter. Forty-two percent say they walk, bike or use public transportation at their destinations; 40 percent buy and shop local and 39 percent eat locally sourced food.
Thirty three percent of respondents save on water and energy by reusing their linens at their hotels and 27 percent participate in the properties’ recycling programs. Just over 20 percent bring their own water bottles to the airport to fill up after they pass security. Just 14 percent noted they prefer to stay at “green” hotels.
“Taking advantage of the goods, cuisine and local attractions the destination city has to offer seems to be the preferred ways to be green while on the road,” says John McCarthy, president, GO Airport Express. “Hotels and concierges can take advantage of this by providing information about nearby entertainment and dining options patronized by locals.”
