WAYAM Mundo Imperial achieves LEED-GOLD certification for improvements in sustainability

By attaining the LEED-GOLD certification, WAYAM has achieved an exceptional evaluation of how the property addresses environmental concerns.

WAYAM Mundo Imperial continues to lead eco-hospitality with its certification of LEED-GOLD thanks to positive changes towards sustainable tourism. This year, WAYAM is celebrating three years in the beautiful destination of Yucatán.

This significant certification acknowledges sustainable and environmentally friendly actions, including the lowering of energy and water usage, the decrease in carbon emissions and waste production. Through these methods, WAYAM restates its dedication to conserving the environment. Since its establishment, environmental stewardship has been integral to WAYAM Mundo Imperial’s ethos, and obtaining this certification right from its inception underscores this commitment. The journey towards sustainability has been ongoing, culminating proudly in achieving the GOLD level this year.

By attaining the LEED-GOLD certification, WAYAM has achieved an exceptional evaluation of how the property addresses environmental concerns. These encompass the reduction of carbon emissions, effective utilization of energy and water, adept waste management, transportation, material usage, and overall environmental health. This leads to the provision of a premier green experience for both guests and visitors right in the heart of Merida. The range of amenities at WAYAM, from aromatherapy in communal spaces to a curated water tasting menu featuring locally sourced waters, harmonizes perfectly with the hotel’s strategic location and environmentally conscious facilities. In conjunction with solar panel installations, all windows at WAYAM are oriented eastward, resulting in heightened solar reflectivity that significantly contributes to thermal insulation.

WAYAM Mundo Imperial blends indoor and outdoor spaces to envelop guests in an eco experience through every facet of their stay. With design according to the Golden Ratio, the resort features a central, five-story-tall mango tree and 10 sculptures by renowned Mexican artist Carlos Marin. Additional amenities include dog-friendly accommodations, aromatherapy, and wellness experiences.

WAYAM features various hydraulic systems and specialized water treatment procedures, including a rainwater harvesting system which collects and filters natural precipitation for the use of toilets and irrigation, in addition to an electromagnetic system that reduces the hardness of water without using chemical agents. The hotel’s main building has a layout that preserves the endemic vegetation to maintain green spaces that bring guests closer to nature.
