Choice Hotels' Ascend Hotel Collection welcomes Downtown Grand Las Vegas Hotel and Casino

First new hotel in downtown Las Vegas to celebrate ribbon cutting on November 12.

LAS VEGAS – Ascend Hotel Collection from Choice Hotels International, Inc. adds Downtown Grand Las Vegas to its impressive list of upscale hotels. On October 27, a small group of guests wined, dined and gambled at the new hotel and casino. Las Vegas casino mogul Steve Wynn and his wife Andrea showed their support by placing the first bets.

On November 12, 2013, the hotel’s two towers and casino will host a ribbon cutting ceremony with the Mayor of Las Vegas and other local dignitaries, and on November 16, local residents and visitors will continue the celebration with a street party “Downtown 3rd presents: Rock the Block” that will include five diverse musical acts on 3rd street and inside the hotel.

This 634-room hotel is the largest member in the Ascend Hotel Collection, a network of one-of-a-kind upscale properties. Each Ascend hotel is a unique reflection of the distinct character of its host city, yet all offer the same high standards of hospitality and comfort. Downtown Grand Las Vegas Hotel and Casino does all that and more.

“What makes Downtown Grand Las Vegas so extraordinary is that it offers a world class experience – through its casino, restaurants, high style and exceptional service – while remaining firmly committed to the local downtown Las Vegas vibe. That upscale, local experience is the essence of the Ascend Hotel Collection,” said Michael Murphy, senior vice president of upscale brands at Choice Hotels International. “We had been eagerly awaiting the doors to open and are extremely pleased to have it as a highlight within the portfolio. This hotel and the rapidly growing Ascend Hotel Collection truly embody the future of Choice Hotels International.”

“Downtown Grand Las Vegas is delighted to be a member of the Ascend Collection,” said Seth Schorr, chief executive officer of Downtown Grand Las Vegas. “Downtown Grand Las Vegas, like its name implies, embodies all that’s exciting about the city and the emerging downtown area, with a stellar line-up of restaurants, bars, gaming and more. As part of the Ascend Hotel Collection, which is all about truly local culture and experiences, we know we’re in good company.”

Located in the heart of Las Vegas, this hotel is part of an amazing revitalization breathing new life and contributing to the new cultural, fun and authentic downtown community. The hotel is located in Downtown3rd, the new metropolitan center of downtown Las Vegas, where guests can enjoy traditional activities like gambling or walk just a few steps to the Fremont Street Experience, charming eateries and bars, the edgy and quirky Arts District, live music venues and museums, including the popular Mob Museum right across the street.

The guest rooms at Downtown Grand Las Vegas set an entirely new standard. All five room types – Deluxe, Premium, One-Bedroom Suite, City Suite and Grand Suite – offer spacious accommodations, high-definition flat screen televisions, presidential pillow top mattresses, luxurious bed linens, plush lounge chairs and stylish custom furnishings.

Of course, what would a trip to Vegas be without a little gambling? The Downtown Grand Casino, a reclaimed factory space with an industrial chic vibe, gives patrons an open and unique gaming environment unlike anything that Vegas has ever seen. The casino offers traditional games like slot machines, tables, Baccarat and sports bets, as well as unprecedented games like “Street Dice” where gamblers place bets and play outside the casino on 3rd Street. The casino also features a ground-breaking rewards program, MY POINTS, which allows for individual tournament play and other special bonuses.

Should guests feel the need to wind up for a big day or wind down from a busy night, Downtown Grand Las Vegas has the perfect place for everyone, from the barfly to the cocktail connoisseur. At Art Bar, the staff invites guests to stay a little longer and enjoy craft drinks and light eats while exploring mini-art exhibits and collections from local artists. MOB Bar allows guests to enjoy a modern-day speakeasy featuring handcrafted cocktails and live music, while Ninth Island lets them embrace their inner child with a convenient indoor/outdoor counter serving authentic Hawaiian shave ice or grown-up daiquiris. Furnace, Downtown Grand Las Vegas’ casino bar, is perfect for guests who want to see and be seen in the center of the action.

Unlike the majority of Las Vegas hotels, Downtown Grand offers a wide variety of small, intimate dining options. Guests are sure to please their palate at one of many comfortable dining options including such notables as, Stewart + Ogden diner bistro, a three-meal restaurant featuring a menu designed by award-winning restaurateurs Elizabeth Blau and Kim Canteenwalla, Red Mansion Chinese Restaurant and Triple George Grill, an award-winning San Francisco-style steakhouse. For business travelers and special occasions, Downtown Grand Las Vegas also offers 2,500 square feet of indoor meeting space and 35,000 square feet of space at PICNIC, the urban rooftop pool retreat, to host perfectly executed corporate meetings, dazzling events and memorable weddings.
