iHome Selects IDT Technology to provide convenience of wireless charging in hotel rooms

Using an IDT Transmitter IC, iHome brings the convenience of wireless charging to the hotel market with a new charging hub and alarm clock/speaker.

SAN JOSE, CALIF. – Integrated Device Technology, Inc. (IDT) announced that Hotel Technologies, a partner company of iHome, selected an IDT transmitter IC to deliver wireless charging for iHome's newest products targeting the hotel market – a charging hub and an alarm clock/speaker. The iHome products deliver the in-room convenience of wireless charging for Qi-enabled smartphones and wearables.

"We selected IDT because the company is the leader in wireless charging and has a long record of success with a wide variety of customers," said Evan Stein, director of marketing of Hotel Technologies and iHome. "The team at IDT made the integration of wireless charging remarkably easy, helping us to develop our latest innovative and feature-rich products for the hotel market."

"IDT has been at the forefront of the rapid adoption of wireless power in the smartphone and wearable markets, and working with a leading brand like iHome helps expand the wireless power infrastructure to hotel rooms," said Chris Stephens, general manager of IDT's Wireless Power Division. "Our wireless power semiconductors are now in everything from smartphones to wearables to furniture, and now alarm clocks. Innovative companies like iHome keep finding new ways to share the benefits of wireless charging with consumers."

In addition to providing wireless charging, iHome's HiW44 desktop charging hub features retractable USB and Lightning cables, as well as multiple USB and AC charging ports so guests can charge all their electronics from one central hub. The HLW83 alarm clock/speaker provides wireless charging, USB and NFC ports, a patented triple display, and a speaker phone in a standard clock radio format.

The IDT Qi-compatible wireless power technology used in iHome's products features an embedded 32-Bit M0 ARM-based processor for development flexibility; ultra-low standby and sleep mode power; and high-efficiency power conversion of over 80 percent (when tested with 5 V output applications with a matching receiver). The chip is highly integrated to minimize the component count and bill of materials.
