InterContinental Hotels Group, announced that George Farhat, Front Office Manager at the Crowne Plaza Dubai has been nominated as Front Office Person of the Year at the JC Maclean Hotelier Awards.
Renowned as the ‘man who can’ to both guests and fellow colleagues, Farhat is requested personally by the hotel’s regular clientele in order to secure bookings and finalise arrangements. “InterContinental Hotels Group and the team at the Crowne Plaza are ecstatic that George’s dedication, strength of character and exceptional work ethic has been recognised on such a regional scale,” commented Anthony Liddiard, General Manager, Crowne Plaza Dubai and Director of Operations, InterContinental Hotels Group, UAE and Qatar.
Working at a local pizzeria, Farhat subsidised himself through hospitality school in Canada. Graduating in 1994 he travelled to Dubai in order to explore the Middle East and started at Crowne Plaza Dubai as a Management Trainee working in the kitchen for over two years where he was then promoted to Chef de Partie.
Farhat finally moved to Front of House as Duty Manager, the area of which he had specialised in at college. Being responsible for both the day and night shift, Front Office soon became George’s home and he was soon promoted to Assistant Front Office Manager and finally to Front Office Manager in September 2002.
Effectively diagnosing and solving problems, Farhat meets and exceeds guest expectations and can normally be found handling three phones, simultaneously.
