PLAYA DEL CARMEN, MEXICO – Mahekal Beach Resort – situated on Playa del Carmen's longest stretch of beach – announced the appointment of Attila Gombos as general manager to its executive team. In this position, the hospitality veteran will play a significant role in the resort's continued success, overseeing all aspects for the bohemian-inspired property, including everything from financial performance and guest/community experience to food and beverage, while maximizing revenue and maintaining focus on strategic goals.
"We're excited to welcome Mr. Gombos to the Mahekal family," said Lamont Meek, Chief Operating Officer of Circa Capital (co-owner and manager of Mahekal). "Considering Mr. Gombos' past Caribbean and Mexico-specific experience, and diverse international background, his strong knowledge of the marketplace and competitive landscape make him well suited for this position."
Gombos brings more than 18 years of expertise in the hospitality industry to Mahekal Beach Resort, with multilingual skills, speaking fluent English, German, Spanish and Hungarian. Most recently, Gombos hails from the Paradisus Playa del Carmen, La Perla & La Esmeralda, a Melia Hotels International Brand, where he served as Director of Food and Beverage, overseeing the luxury resort's 15 restaurants and 16 bars. Previously, Gombos held various executive positions at multiple notable hotels from The Ritz-Carlton Coconut Grove and Corinthia Grand Hotel Royal Budapest, to Melia Santo Domingo Hotel & Casino and Grand Cayman Marriott Beach Resort.
Nestled between the dense Riviera Maya jungle and Playa del Carmen's longest stretch of beach lies Mahekal Beach Resort, the only resort of its kind in all of Playa. Unlike other high-rise, corridor hotels, elevators are not found at Mahekal, and the buildings are not much taller than the palm trees surrounding them. Hand-laid, hidden stone pathways lead to 196 private, palapa-style bungalows, all steps from the sweeping, sandy beach, complete with open-air terraces, crochet hammocks, personal plunge pools or outdoor moon showers. This authentic raw-luxe retreat embodies a Swiss Family Robinson feel with high-end finishes and touches of Mayan culture. Greeted with crisp Caribbean scents, lush vegetation and colorful bougainvillea, Mahekal – which means "magical" in the ancient Mayan language – offers a memorable, magical escape with on-property amenities including four sparkling swimming pools, a seaside hot tub, a Mayan-inspired Revive Spa and fitness center, Vida Aquatica Dive Center, as well as five restaurants and bars. The ultimate coastal experience is complete with a carefree, bohemian atmosphere, the look and feel of Mexico's traditional past with thrilling adventures nearby.
