Nine of Preferred Hotel Group’s many golf destinations have received the Travel + Leisure Golf World’s Best Award for 2006, a distinguished mark of excellence for golf resorts around the globe. The rankings, determined by the publication’s well-traveled and discriminating readership, recognize the very best golf resorts across the Americas as well as in Ireland and in the U.K.



Travel + Leisure Golf’s announcement follows on the heels of Preferred Hotel Group’s launch of its exclusive Preferred Golf™ initiative which showcases 33 of the world’s premier golf destinations, including the nine designated among the World’s Best 2006. This comprehensive program will enhance awareness of the unique and growing array of golf resorts within the Preferred Hotels® & Resorts portfolio.



“We are proud that so many of Preferred Hotel Group’s members have been recognized among the world’s best by Travel + Leisure Golf’s readership,” said John Ueberroth, Chairman and CEO, Preferred Hotel Group.



Ranking numbers one and two among the poll’s “Top 10 U.S. Golf Resorts” are Kiawah Island Golf Resort in South Carolina and California’s Pebble Beach Resorts — Lodge at Pebble Beach and The Inn at Spanish Bay (appearing together in the second slot). In addition, Georgia’s Sea Island Resorts — The Cloister and The Lodge, appeared together in the number 10 spot.



The survey, which also ranked golf destinations by geographic region and by category, gave Kiawah Island Golf Resort unparalleled top honors in the Southeast U.S. region in all categories, including “Best Golf Resorts”, “Best Resorts for Buddy Trips”, “Best Resorts for Family Trips”, “Most Underrated Resorts”, “Best Resort Courses”, “Most Underrated Courses” (Osprey Point, Turtle Point and Cougar Point), “Best Restaurants”, “Best Spas/Gyms”, and “Toughest Courses” (Ocean).



The two Pebble Beach resorts ranked number one in the West/Northwest U.S. region as “Best Golf Resorts”, “Best Resort Courses” (Pebble Beach Golf Links), “Best Restaurants”, and “Best Spas/Gyms.” The two Sea Island resorts came in at number two and three in the Southeast U.S. region as “Best Resorts for Family” and “Best Golf Resorts” respectively.



In geographic rankings, Kingsmill Resort, Williamsburg, Virginia, was ranked third “Best Golf Resort Overall” in the Northeast/Mid-Atlantic region. It also ranked among the top three regionally for “Best Buddy Trips”, “Best Resorts for Family Trips”, and “Most Underrated Resorts”. The Broadmoor in Colorado was named to the “Best for Family Trips” and “Best Restaurant” lists in the West/Northwest U.S. region.



<“Most Underrated Resorts” for their respective regions included Turtle Bay Resort (Hawaii), The Coeur d`Alene Resort” in Idaho (West/Northwest) and Amelia Island Plantation Inn (Florida). The Amelia Island Plantation Inn also received accolades in the “Best Resorts for Family” category.


On the Emerald Isle, The Dromoland Castle in County Clare is named among “Best Hotels in Ireland”.
