Indonesia Department of Culture and Tourism has set a target of six million arrivals and an earning of US$6 billion in 2005.

Minister of Culture and Tourism, Mr Jero Wacik, said: We have earlier targeted 5.5 million arrivals, but I have decided to increase it to six million. We have to work hard to achieve it.

He will be applying strategies to achieve the target. First of all, we will eliminate the stumbling blocks, such as the immigration services, and to develop new markets, such as China, India and the Middle East more seriously, he said.

In the mean time, the latest statistical data showed January-October tourist arrivals to the country through 13 main gateways rose by 25.7 per cent compared to the same period last year, from 3.02 million to 3.8 million.

Mr Wacik was optimistic this year`s target of five million arrivals will be achieved. Besides the fact that the number has not included all gateways, Mr Wacik, said: We still have one more peak season next month.
