Egypt’s Minister of Tourism returns to WTM London as the UK lifts its flight ban to Sharm El-Sheikh

Overall visitors to Egypt have increased during the past few years, reaching 11.4 million in 2018.

 

Dr. Rania A. Al-Mashat, Egypt’s Minister of Tourism, will be returning to World Travel Market London held in ExCel 4-6 November. The Minister will announce new developments including the opening of the Grand Egyptian Museum, The Sphinx Airport and many hotels. She will discuss Egypt’s increase in tourism and future strategy including for the 2020 season.   

Overall visitors to Egypt have increased during the past few years, reaching 11.4 million in 2018. Business from the United Kingdom returned with an increase by 30% between 2017 and 2018. Visitors from the UK are expected to increase even further following the recent announcement that the restrictions of UK flights to Sharm El-Sheikh have been lifted after four years as of 22 October 2019 and tour operators have already started selling this popular area.

Rania A. Al-Mashat, The Egyiptian Minister of Tourism commented “ We welcome the return of British tourists to Sharm El-Sheikh. This announcement is a renewal of the ongoing cooperation between both nations. This step is a testement to the continous efforts exerted by the Egyptian government to ensure the safetly and security of every visitor in all Egypt’s destinations, and in South Sinai in particular.”

Rania A. Al-Mashat has many accomplishments since being appointed Minister of Tourism in January 2018, including the successful implementation of a reform programme focusing on sustainability, improving security and innovating the tourism sector in Egypt. A recognised Economist, named a "Young Global Leader" by the World Economic Forum she was recognised as one of the 50 most influential women in the Egyptian economy in 2015.

The highly anticipated Grand Egyptian Museum will open in October 2020 in Cairo. It will be the largest archaeological museum in the world and will house 100,000 antiquities, some of which have never before been shown in public. The museum’s rare collection will consist of King Tut's tomb and tens of thousands of unique archaeological finds.

The official inauguration of Cairo’s Sphinx International Airport took place earlier this year, and the airport is now officially open to charter flights and soon to be open to demestic flights as well.

Egypt has many new hotel and cruise developments on the way. A new property from Hyatt Regency is also expected to open in Western Cairo at the end of 2020. Steigenberger Hotels & Resorts has recently announced the rebranding of Achti Resort Luxor to Steigenberger Achti Resort Luxor from 01 November, 2019. Sonesta  will be launching the Sun Goddess cruise after being fully renovated and is expected to be back in operation in February 2020. The Mayflower, a brand new 5 stars deluxe boat will commence its first operation on Monday, 28 October.
