British Regional to be taken over by British Airways

British Airways<.> (BA) is finally increasing its holdings with the British Regional Air Lines group, which is made up of British Regional Airlines and Manx Airlines and has been a BA franchise partner since 1995. The GBP 78 million takeover, announced by British Airways in March, 2001, is going to incorporate British Regional, which employs around 1,300 staff, has a fleet of 42 aircraft and flies to 34 destinations in the UK and Ireland, as well as to Berlin, Hanover, Lyon and Nice. British Airways plans to combine British Regional`s operations with its profitable West Country-based subsidiary Brymon Airways. Isle of Man services are going to continue to operate in Manx colors. The British Regional air Lines Group posted pre-tax profits of some GBP10.2 million (or US $14.5 million) for the year to December 31, 2000, said to be some 30 percent higher than those recorded a year earlier. Moreover, in the same period under review turnover rose by 15.4 percent to amount to GBP 232.7 million and earnings per share increased by 39.2 percent to reach 15.3p….
