Air Malta will be introducing five new routes on its summer 2003 flight schedule, just issued. The schedule, which covers the period from 30 March to 25 October 2003, contains flight details of the 46 destinations to which Air Malta will be operating this summer.

The new routes are St Petersburg, Madrid, Helsinki, Bucharest and Porto. Through the extension of the present network the travelling public will be offered a wider choice of destinations, most of which offer different cultural and leisure experiences, in addition to those available on the established routes.

Other routes will be consolidated due to the current and anticipated situation within the aviation and travel industry. Services to and from the three major London airports of Heathrow, Gatwick and Stansted as well as Manchester will maintain their lion`s share of the airline`s schedule.

Air Malta will be operating its summer schedule with its current 13 aircraft fleet 4 Airbus A320-200, 7 Boeing 737-300 and 2 Boeing 737-200A.

The airline`s complete scheduled route network for this summer covers Amsterdam, Athens, Barcelona, Berlin, Birmingham, Brussels, Bucharest, Budapest, Cairo, Casablanca, Catania, Cork, Dublin, Dusseldorf, Frankfurt, Geneva, Glasgow, Gothenburg, Istanbul, Larnaca, Lisbon, London Gatwick, London Heathrow, London Stansted, Lyon, Madrid, Manchester, Marseille, Milan, Moscow, Munich, Oslo, Palermo, Paris, Porto, Prague, Rome, Sofia, St Petersburg, Stockholm, Thessaloniki, Tripoli, Tunis, Vienna and Zurich. Helsinki will start being served in September.

Comparing Summer 2003 with Summer 2002, London Heathrow will be getting a new Saturday evening flight for the peak season (July to September), leaving Malta at 6.10 p.m.; London Gatwick will have a new frequency leaving Malta at 5.05 p.m. on Sunday throughout the summer (30th March to 25th October); and another additional flight will leave for London Stansted at 2.25 p.m. every Wednesday between May and October.

Manchester, which has proved a huge success with daily scheduled flights, will be getting an additional frequency leaving Malta at 3.25 p.m. every Saturday throughout the summer.

Paris will now be served with daily flights except on Wednesdays and second frequencies on Thursday, Saturday and Sunday. Amsterdam, already with 11 flights a week, will be getting a new flight leaving Malta at 3.20 p.m. every Sunday throughout the summer.

Additional frequencies are being laid on for Budapest on Thursday, Moscow and Barcelona on Friday for the peak season. Reinstated scheduled destination Madrid will be getting three weekly frequencies on Monday, Thursday and Sunday, while Gothenburg will be getting one flight every Tuesday.

New scheduled destination St Petersburg will be getting flights on Wednesday mornings for the Maltese peak season between July and September, as well as during April and May, which is the Russian peak season for travelling.

The weekly flights to Porto will be on Wednesdays, with those to Bucharest leaving Malta on Thursday nights and returning on Friday mornings.

These destinations not only provide alternative destinations to the increasingly adventurous Maltese traveller but also give foreigners in these countries the ability to visit Malta.

The summer timetable will be distributed during the AMITEX travel fair that will be held between Friday 28th and Sunday 30th March at the Trade Fair grounds in Naxxar. The timetable will also be available from Air Malta Sales Office and local travel agents.
