New Axon Airlines concentrates on international routes, for the moment

Greece`s newest international carrier, Axon<.> Airlines, may have started with international routes but it promises to quickly break into the domestic market as well.
Axon took to the air June 29 after an initial investment of one billion drachmas. Thomas Liakounakos, the airline`s chairman, adds that by the end of this year the company`s capital will reach $30 million or about 9.3 billion drachmas.
Haris Koutas, Axon`s managing director, says the airline`s business plan is based on daily flights from Athens to four major European destinations (Rome, Milan, Paris, Brussels) with two new Boeing 737-700 passenger jets. The company plans to purchase another 737-700 and will break into the domestic market next spring with two new B717-200 regional jets that are now on order. The company is one of the world`s first to order the new generation Boeing jets. He says the airline will base its future on providing the latest in technology, new generation aircraft, on-time departures, quality service, and above all, complete safety: In other words, `value for money,` says Mr. Koutas.
Axon`s workforce, the company says, trains and will continue to train to uphold a strict world level of professional service standards. Pilots have been trained at the Boeing Flight Safety Training Center and have an average of 10,000 flying hours.
