Organisational changes in British Airways

British Airways is to reorganise its customer service and operations department following the retirement of director Mike Street OBE

British Airways is to reorganise its customer service and operations department following the retirement of director Mike Street OBE at the end of September.

The re-organisation, effective from October 1, will see Geoff Want, currently director of safety and security, become director of all ground operations in the UK and overseas. He will assume responsibility for the airline`s move in 2008 to a single terminal operation in Heathrow`s Terminal 5.

David Noyes (director Heathrow) and Beverley Bennett (head of UK regional and international customer service) will both report to Mr Want in a role that will see him join the airline`s leadership team.

Joy Hordern, director of in-flight service, will report to commercial director Martin George in a move that aligns product development and delivery.

Robert Boyle, currently director of commercial planning, will become director planning with the creation of a new department that includes the airline`s operations control and operations planning departments.

Mr Boyle keeps his current responsibilities of network planning and fleet planning and will now take overall charge for commercial planning as well as operational planning.

Willie Walsh, British Airways` chief executive designate, said: The areas that make up the former customer service and operations department are vital to the success of the airline as a whole. This reorganisation places them under the stewardship of three very capable directors, when Mike Street retires at the end of the month. Our focus in the meantime will be to ensure a smooth and efficient handover.
