The Board of Directors and Executive Management of Swissport International have appointed Nigel Daniel to head the Commercial division of the Swissport Group. He takes up the role on June 1 and becomes a member of the Executive Management of the world`s leading aviation ground services group.
Nigel Daniel, 47, joins the board as EVP Commercial following three successful years leading the UK based ground handling company Groundstar. The Company was acquired by Swissport in April 2004 to further strengthen and expand its position in the UK market. The UK business is currently active in seven UK airports employing some 2800 personnel, providing full ground handling, fuelling and supervision services.
Swissport UK has built an excellent reputation across all aspects of the industry and has close relationships and contracts with most of the major carriers – schedule, low cost and charter operations, handling 20 million passengers and over 100,000 flights per annum.
Prior to leading Groundstar, Nigel held several leading executive positions within the aviation industry. Throughout his period with Groundstar he has built a strong Senior Management team and has developed and grown the business focussing specifically on providing a quality service
As Executive Vice President Commercial, Nigel will bear overall responsibility not only for all the sales and other commercial aspects (excluding cargo) of the Swissport Group and its business operations; he will also be in overall charge of the group`s Aviation Security, Executive Aviation, GSE Maintenance and Product Development activities. He succeeds Simon Lehmann, who will be leaving Swissport on May 31 to take up a CEO role of a leading provider in the Swiss leisure industry.
Nigel Daniel will be succeeded as CEO of Swissport UK by Tina Barbour, who has been with Groundstar for 3 years as Operations Director, Tina has the support of an excellent senior UK team. They will continue to provide stability and a quality service to their UK customers and to develop the strong foundations that have been put in place over the past three years.
