European families make huge savings on a trip to London since Brexit vote

Strength of the euro vs the British pound means there’s never been a better time to visit London.

Families visiting London from across Europe this summer have potentially made huge savings during their stay, according to calculations made by Visitlondon.com, the official city guide for the capital.

The relative strength of the euro against the British pound since the UK voted in June to leave the European Union, has made the cost of everything from a hotel room to visiting the city’s leading attractions much better value for families across the continent1.

Typical savings for a family break in London could include:

The combined savings here equate to a total of 113 euros, giving European families the option to make their trip to London even more special by splashing out on extra experiences, such as the Tower of London, plus the Royal Observatory and Planetarium in Greenwich – and have change left over.

Chris Gottlieb, Chief Marketing and Communications Officer at London & Partners said: “London is fantastic value for European visitors right now, and the savings that a family of four can typically expect to make at the moment can be a great excuse to add an extra day to their holiday and explore more of our incredible city”.

London continues to welcome record international visitor numbers. In the first six months of 2016 a record 8.8 million overseas visitors came to London, and since the 2012 Olympics the number of international visitors coming to London has increased by over 20 per cent2.

The latest forecasts by Oxford Economics suggest that London tourism will see stronger long-term growth, with 22.4 million overseas tourists coming to the capital by 2020.

The Visitlondon.com research comes as the Mayor of London Sadiq Khan opened the new flagship Lego store in Leicester Square. The store is set to become a must-visit retail attraction in the run up to Christmas and beyond from one of the country's most iconic brands.
