FutureBrand wins prestigious CLIO Award for the new American Airlines

The creative future company garners the first award for an airline in Corporate Identity Design category.

NEW YORK – This week at the 54th annual CLIO Awards, FutureBrand North America was proud to receive a trophy in the Corporate Identity Design category for its recent work with iconic brand, American Airlines. This honor marks the first time an airline brand has been awarded a CLIO in Corporate Identity Design.

On a mission to honor groundbreaking work and talent that pushes the boundaries of creativity, the international CLIO Awards collect over 11,000 entries from over 80 countries each year. Awards in the Design medium, one of 18 media types contested, highlight creative work that conveys brand and product messages in a way that not only functions for the client, but also compels and inspires the consumer.

“We are incredibly proud of this recognition. It’s the result of our 2-year collaboration with American and entirely representative of the incredible efforts that the company has made to modernize just about every aspect of the airline,” said Kari Blanchard, Senior Director of Strategy at FutureBrand and project lead for American Airlines. “It’s also a powerful example of how strong creative strategy and expression can help transform the entire experience companies and brands provide their customers and employees, positioning them for more successful and positive futures.”

Launched around the world on January 17th, 2013, the new American Airlines identity and livery reflect a more modern, vibrant and welcoming spirit for the brand. It also marks the first time the identity has been updated in 46 years. As the identity continues to be rolled out -extending to such touchpoints as mobile apps, modernized airport terminals and check-in experiences, premium airport lounges, updated onboard menus, and communications- it demonstrates American’s progress and commitment toward building an exceptional travel experience for its customers.

Sven Seger, Chief Creative Officer of FutureBrand North America, notes, “Working with American Airlines has been a fantastic experience. Finding ways to modernize the brand, while tying its iconic heritage to its human qualities, was a challenging process. It required that the entire team be willing to contemplate every detail of the brand. It is an honor to have that work recognized and endorsed by the creative community.”
