The arrival of a full flight of European tourists at Tel Aviv`s Ben Gurion Airport heralds the return of TUI, the continent`s leading tourism group to Israel, and a new era in Israeli tourism, said the country`s Minister of Tourism Avraham Hirchson.

The minister, as well as other senior Israeli tourism and aviation officials greeted the maiden flight which also carried senior TUI executives. The resumption of the flights is an expression of confidence in Israel as a favored tourist destination and is a result of the ministry`s ongoing efforts to open the country`s skies to competition.

TUI will offer weekly winter flights between Munich and Tel Aviv. Beginning February 4th, Hapagfly, the group`s airline, will add an additional flight. 150 TUI-operated flights from Germany and Holland are expected to arrive in Israel this winter.

Israel`s Ministry of Tourism will continue its support for charter flights from Europe in 2006, affording Europeans and Israelis with more travel options.

801,425 European tourists visited Israel between January and September 2005, 28 per cent more than in the same period a year before.
