During the 1990s, Russians were frequent guests in Dubai’s hotels, but since the economic crisis of 1998, numbers have dwindled. Now with the Russian economy growing rapidly, the Dusit Dubai reports that it has likewise received considerable interest from Russian travel agents and tour operators following the hotel team’s participation in last month’s Leisure Show 2002 in Moscow.
With its growing importance, Russia has emerged as one of the largest contributors of inbound tourism to Dubai. Last year Dubai hosted 200,000 guests from Russia and 459 Russian operators have Dubai packages. Most of the travel from Russia depends on chartered flights which fly on Tuesdays and Fridays and also from regular flights. The peak season for travel is during the Russian Christmas on 6th Jan, the spring holidays from 9 March and during school holidays
These figures give a clear indication that the hotel nights booked by Russians show an upward trend, and are a guideline for us to pay more attention to the Russian tourism market, commented Michael P. Tiplady General Manager Dusit Dubai.
Dubai has positioned itself as an exciting leisure destination on the world map offering unrivalled attractions for the Russian market. Its tourism structure and facilities and high service standards are extremely appealing to the Russian traveler – a fact that is borne out in the rising number of guests coming from cities such as Moscow, Samara and Kazan said Mr Tiplady. Mr Tiplady was pleased by the Dusit Dubai’s success at the show and added that for the Dusit Dubai, the exhibition was successful as their team was able to sell many room nights and packages as well as meet existing customers and forge relationships with new customers.
