Qatar Airways bringing more flights, bigger aircraft to MIA in 2015

Beginning on May 2, the carrier will replace the Boeing 777-200LR aircraft that operate the majority of its five weekly Miami flights with larger Boeing 777-300ER aircraft.

MIAMI – Global Five-Star carrier Qatar Airways has announced plans to increase both the frequency and capacity of its Miami-Doha flights later this year. Since it launched service last June, Florida’s only direct connection to the Middle East has proven extremely popular with travelers, prompting Qatar Airways to once again add to its Miami service offerings in just its second year of operations.

Beginning on May 2, the carrier will replace the Boeing 777-200LR aircraft that operate the majority of its five weekly Miami flights with larger Boeing 777-300ER aircraft. Additionally, Qatar Airways will convert to daily Miami-Doha service beginning on November 18 with the addition of new Wednesday and Friday flights. The new aircraft and service translate to more seats for travelers, with the current 259-seat 777 variant expanding to at least a 335-seat version of the twin-engine Boeing. Along with increased passenger capacity, the 777-300ER offers nearly 2,000 cubic feet of additional belly cargo space.

“Qatar Airways’ decision to expand Miami flights and capacity reflects the demand for their first-rate customer service product, as well as Miami’s popularity as a destination and transit hub to the Americas,” said Miami-Dade Aviation Director Emilio T. Gonzalez. “From tourism to trade to jobs, their growth in Miami is a good thing for our community.”

The news comes on the heels of Austrian Airways’ announcement last week that it will be launching direct Miami-Vienna service in October. In the near term, Aeromexico will begin offering daily nonstop flights to Monterrey later this month, while Thomas Cook Airlines is set to begin direct service to Manchester, England in May.
