The full title of the conference is: “The Challenge of Destination Management: Balancing Growth and Sustainability” and confirmed speakers include representatives from Marketing Manchester, Manchester Airport, VisitEngland, the Tourism Alliance, England’s National Parks, Marketing Liverpool, and two tourism consultancy companies, Yellow Railroad and Creative Tourist Consults.

Tourism businesses are invited to participate in a one-day conference in central Manchester to debate important topical issues relating to tourism development, 'over-tourism', economic growth and sustainability.

The conference is being organised by the Tourism Consultants Network (TCN, a section of the Tourism Society and Europe’s leading professional association of tourism consultants) and will take place on Thursday 22 November 2018 at Manchester’s iconic Central Library.

The full title of the conference is: “The Challenge of Destination Management: Balancing Growth and Sustainability” and confirmed speakers include representatives from Marketing Manchester, Manchester Airport, VisitEngland, the Tourism Alliance, England’s National Parks, Marketing Liverpool, and two tourism consultancy icompanies, Yellow Railroad and Creative Tourist Consults.

A highlight of the programme will be a presentation by Sandra Ishmael, the London-based Director for UK and Ireland for the Netherlands Board of Tourism and Conventions, who will explain how The Netherlands has developed and now operates visitor management strategies that are successfully dispersing tourists from the overcrowded centre of Amsterdam out to less visited neighbourhoods and to other regions of The Netherlands.

Roger Goodacre, Chairman of the TCN, said: “This is the third regional tourism conference organised by the Tourism Consultants Network, following sell-out events in the past two years in York and Cardiff.

“It's an excellent opportunity for tourism business leaders and entrepreneurs to come together to discuss crucial issues of tourism growth, management and sustainability.

“Speakers from both the private and public sectors will talk about the economic, regulatory and political challenges they face, how they've adapted their business practices to meet them and how they foresee developments in the near future.

“Over the course of the day, delegates will have the opportunity to network with counterparts from all parts of the industry, including regional and national sectoral bodies, destination management organisations and tourism business owners.”

The conference will celebrate the official launch of the Greater Manchester Chapter of the Tourism Society, which builds upon a network of already established Tourism Society Chapters in Wales, Cumbria, Yorkshire, Kent and Scotland.

The conference starts at 10.30am and will finish at 4.30pm. The event is open to all tourism professionals and related businesses, including destination management organisations, tourism professionals and tourism students, whether or not members of the TCN or the Tourism Society.
