IAEE Public Events Council releases survey report

A five-year analysis of the public events industry, 2009-2013.

DALLAS – The International Association of Exhibitions and Events (IAEE) Public Events Council released its Public Events Industry Report: 2013 Results. In 2009, the Public Events Council distributed a survey to public event organizers across 22 public events industry sectors to examine overall industry performance. The report identified which public events industry sectors fared well, which sectors struggled and their expectations for the future. As a follow-up to the benchmark report, the survey is repeated annually with subsequent reports detailing individual and comparative statistics over the years.

For the first time, in 2013, a predictive element was added that forecasts new launch and sponsorship expectations through 2016.With five years of data available, the report continues to grow as a tool for producers to use in order to identify trends, make plans for launching new events and see where individual sectors fall in the overall view.

“The Public Events Industry Report, now in its fifth iteration, demonstrates a dramatic positive reversal in many areas from the benchmark report of 2009,” says IAEE President David DuBois, CMP, CAE, FASAE, CTA. “And, when looking at the responses to the predictive questions, show producers’ expectations for continued growth through 2016 are high.”

Some key results include:

  • Revenue in 2013 continued positive growth with 95 percent reporting better or nearly the same results and only 5 percent reporting worse results than in 2012.
  • The majority of newly launched events met or exceeded expectations.
  • The auto, fairs, food/beverage and kids/family/lifestyle/pets sectors all report seeing signs of recovery moving into 2014.

IAEE would like to extend appreciation to the National Association of Consumer Shows (NACS) for support in gathering data for the 2013 report.
