Jetstar has taken a step towards completing an all Airbus A320 fleet, offering the 177-seat aircraft on all Hobart services.

The Qantas subsidiary has also begun flying the A320 on Launceston flights for the first time.

The airline is aiming to have an all A320 fleet numbering 23 aircraft by mid 2006 across its Australian domestic network, including trans-Tasman services from December 2005.

Having flagged our intention to replace efficient Boeing 717 services with our new Airbus A320 fleet across Jetstar`s network by mid 2006, it has now become a priority for Jetstar to rapidly upgrade our Tasmanian operations ahead of this schedule, Jetstar CEO Alan Joyce said.

The larger A320 allows a 45 percent increase in seats offered per flight.

It is Jetstar`s intention under our A320 fleet strategy for Tasmania to improve both our overall air seat capacity levels and an upgrade in aircraft product with the Airbus fleet conversion, Mr Joyce said.

The continued introduction of more A320 aircraft will importantly allow for a new and more stable flight schedule across our Tasmanian operations.
