OneWeb set to revolutionize in-flight connectivity

OneWeb will provide the world’s first global LEO satellite broadband coverage for aircraft and passengers that will deliver high-speed, low latency service seamlessly over all air routes, including the Arctic region. OneWeb’s global aviation connectivity service will be available for customer demos in 2020 – with full service launching in 2021.

OneWeb, a global communications company with a mission to connect everyone, everywhere, is set to revolutionize in-flight connectivity by delivering a seamless, global fiber-like broadband service to any air route, short or long-haul flights, and over the polar region.

Working with carefully selected distribution partners, OneWeb’s communications network is designed to allow airlines to offer passengers and crew a significantly faster and more reliable experience in accessing data and internet services in-flight. This game-changing service will be available over airline routes previously not possible to connect, such as Arctic routes. It will also allow airlines to meaningfully fulfil their digitization programs across the whole passenger journey – from booking to inflight, landing and onward journeys.

With OneWeb’s high-speed, low latency capabilities, passengers will feel the difference and improvement wherever they travel. Live TV, content streaming services such as Netflix, real-time gaming, accessing cloud applications, as well as web browsing, email and social media, all of which have become part of passengers’ daily lives, will now become a much richer experience.

OneWeb’s inflight services will be available in a variety of packages to suit the needs of all types of airlines, with fit for purpose onboard equipment to match each airline’s requirements.

The airline community is restricted by the throughput and latency constraints of today's in-flight connectivity services.  There is an acknowledged need for a step change and our global airline services will democratize the connectivity experience, enabling everyone to enjoy high-speed, low latency connectivity, even on 500-passenger aircraft,” said Ben Griffin, OneWeb’s VP Commercial Aviation.

Our vision for aviation is fully customized, truly global passenger broadband. We are excited to launch OneWeb to the aviation industry and look forward to working with distribution partners to bring our service to life,” he added.

Participating for the first time at the Airline Passenger Experience Association (APEX) Expo in Los Angeles, CA (September 9th to 12th), OneWeb will be highlighting its global aviation connectivity services, including plans for complete polar coverage across the northern tracks and live service within two years.
