Lato Boutique Hotel in Heraklion gets ISO 14001 Environmental Management Standard Certification

To get ISO 14001 certified by the International Organization for Standardization ISO, Lato Boutique Hotel implemented several changes.

HERAKLION – To satisfy guest expectations, Lato Boutique Hotel in Heraklion completed a major refurbishment and expansion phase at the beginning of 2013. Now, in response to environmental conscientious clients, and to make a positive contribution locally and globally, owner company of M. & E. Karataraki S.A. decided to implement a major series of changes designed to save energy and natural resources, which eventually resulted in upgrading Lato’s energy class.

Today, Lato Boutique Hotel is an ISO 14001 certified business. This new certification reinforces the constant efforts of the company to protect local and global nature, by using environmentally-friendly products and technologies.

To get ISO 14001 certified by the International Organization for Standardization ISO, Lato Boutique Hotel implemented several changes, including installing new air-conditioning energy class A’ with Central Management System BMS; removing the petrol boiler and installing heat pumps connected to solar panels; installing new A class TVs and refrigerators in all rooms; replacing all light bulbs in indoor and outdoor spaces with LED fixtures; implementing proper thermal insulation for exterior walls and roof; replacing faucets and other water valves with new controls that optimize water conservation and much more.

“Lato Boutique Hotel ‘s eco-conscious approach will continue by adapting various other sustainable programs throughout the hotel, but also in our restaurants,” said owner and CEO Lefteris Karatarakis. “This is our firm commitment in making our property the best place to live and work, an example for local and international businesses.”

Going green helped Lato Boutique Hotel to achieve energy savings of more than  38% in just a couple of months. The new, environmentally-friendly systems will also ensure that Lato reduces carbon emissions (co2) at 46.000 (kgl / year ) and saves more water, while offering the best environment for visitors and employees.

In the near future, Lato Boutique Hotel will implement green measures in its three restaurants as well, Brillant, Herb’s Garden and Aroma, focusing as much as possible on organic, certified farm-to-table ingredients, as well as focusing on reducing waste output, increasing stock of reusable items, and recycling and composting what is left.
