ROAM Fitness to open at Philadelphia International Airport

Post-security gym and wellness center helps air travelers care for their bodies as it joins PHL Food & Shops award-winning portfolio.

PHILADELPHIA – Travelers with extra time on their hands at Philadelphia International Airport (PHL) will soon have the option to burn off energy, relax in an infrared sauna or shower before boarding their next flight. PHL is welcoming ROAM Fitness, a first-of-its-kind airport gym and shower facility, in winter 2023, near the Terminal F hub. This innovative fitness concept adds to PHL Food & Shops’ impressive roster of more than 170 eateries, retail shops and services.

ROAM was founded by Cynthia Sandall and Ty Manegold, frequent travelers who were inspired to create a space that allows passengers to utilize their airport downtime to maintain their health and wellness. The new space opening at PHL will feature 1,500 square feet of state-of-the-art cardio equipment, free weights and a cable system, connected fitness machines with on-demand and live classes, stretching space with yoga mats and props, an infrared sauna, and private shower rooms with towel service and Malin+Goetz products.

"PHL is honored to be a part of the expansion journey with ROAM Fitness," said Mel Hannah, Vice President and General Manager of MarketPlace PHL. "This offering for passengers will revitalize the travel experience for those who want to keep up with their fitness goals."

The gym can be accessed with a day pass or annual membership. Lululemon technical athletic apparel and Brooks running shoes are complimentary. For travelers who prefer to purchase new gear, ROAM offers a selection of lululemon, Girlfriend Collective and Rhone apparel. For those who prefer to exercise in their own gear, ROAM vacuum seals sweaty clothes so odors don’t permeate carry-on items.

Travelers can reserve the infrared sauna or private shower rooms when they check in at the front desk to ensure they make it to their gates on time (annual members can reserve a shower or sauna 24 hours in advance). Flight information display boards are also located in the facility so travelers can keep an eye on any changes that may occur.

Ty Manegold, Co-Founder of ROAM Fitness, commented, "After five years of fine-tuning our service offering at Baltimore (BWI) Airport, including two and a half years of surviving a pandemic, I am thrilled to see ROAM Fitness expanding its footprint to more in-terminal airport locations, continuing with Philadelphia (PHL) Airport. Philly’s large presence in the Mid-Atlantic and New England markets and its being a hub for American Airlines make it a great location for our second wellness center, allowing us to expand the value of our health club offering to the community at large. With an increase in total square footage, our larger facility will showcase an expansion in variety and total number of exercise stations, including the latest and greatest in technology-integrated feedback and connected coaching platforms that have become the vanguard of any workout experience. My personal favorite addition to the ROAM Fitness experience will be ROAM PHL’s single-occupant infrared sauna – a welcomed feature for both the frequent flier and the long-haul international traveler."

"We couldn’t be more excited for PHL travelers to have access to our gym facilities. We have plenty of cardio equipment and private shower rooms that can be reserved to ensure you make it to your gate on time," said Cynthia Sandall, Co-Founder.
