Passengers most often went on holiday to: Antalya (86,635 passengers), Burgas (22,729), Rhodes (20,134), Hurghada (18,331), Heraklion (18,079). In July 2022, aircraft took off and landed 4 812 times at Katowice Airport, that’s 999 air operations more (+26.2%) than in the seventh month of 2021.

“Last month’s result was better than the pre-pandemic July 2019, when 657 thousand passengers travelled to/from Katowice Airport. We expect to repeat the result from July in August,” said Artur Tomasik, President of the Board of GTL SA, the company managing Katowice Wojciech Korfanty Airport.

From January to July 2022, 2,289,036 passengers were handled at Katowice Wojciech Korfanty Airport, i.e. 1,444,138 more (+170.9%) than last year. 1,233,504 passengers travelled on regular flights, i.e. 965 651 more (+360.5%) than during the first seven months of 2021. From January to the end of July, passengers most often travelled from Katowice Airport to the following regular destinations: Dortmund (186 611 passengers), London-Luton (102 497), London-Stansted (72 929), Cologne-Bonn (58 342), Eindhoven (55,255). Furthermore, 1 046 735 passengers travelled on charter flights, i.e. 476 038 more (+83.4%) than last year. During the first seven months of 2022, passengers most often flew on holiday to: Antalya (215,616 passengers), Hurghada (87 890), Marsa Alam (81 978), Rhodes (44,089), Heraklion (42,238). From January to the end of July, aircraft took off and landed 22 416 times at Katowice Airport, that’s 10 204 operations more (+83.6%) than last year.

“Our forecast indicate that Katowice Airport will handle the three millionth passenger in 2022 in mid-September. We should conclude the entire year with approximately 4.5 million passengers, but only if pandemic restrictions will not return during the fourth quarter of the year in countries forming the Katowice Airport network, as such a tendency automatically contributes towards a smaller interest in air travels,” emphasises Artur Tomasik.
