TUI Travel rated most valuable travel and tourism brand

This is the second year in a row TUI Travel has featured as sector leader, climbing 22 places this year in the overall global list.

LONDON – TUI Travel PLC, owner of Thomson and First Choice, has been rated the most valuable brand in the travel and tourism sector in the Brand Finance Global 500 league table 2014. This is the second year in a row TUI Travel has featured as sector leader, climbing 22 places this year in the overall global list.

Brand Finance is the world’s leading brand valuation consultancy. Each year, Brand Finance Global 500 produces a league table of the world’s top companies, ranking them by their brand value. It calculates this brand value using the Royalty Relief methodology, determining the value a company would be willing to pay to license its brand if it did not own it. According to the methodology, the portfolio valuation of TUI Travel’s brand is valued at $3.960 billion for 2014, up from $3.162 billion in 2013.

As well as a brand value, each of the 500 brands in the table is accorded a brand rating; a benchmark of the strength, risk and potential of a brand relative to its competitors, similar to a credit rating. TUI Travel’s overall brand rating is A+.

Peter Long, CEO of TUI Travel said “We are delighted with our position in the Global 500 as it highlights both the scale of our business and the strength of TUI Travel as a brand. We are committed to delivering unique holidays to our customers, and using our significant scale to leverage the best possible value for customers”.

Robert Haigh, Communications Director at Brand Finance, said “The portfolio valuation of TUI travel continues to show strength and unwavering confidence in the TUI Travel brand, establishing its position as market leader. This league table features companies that are at the top of their game and includes only the biggest brands in the world today.”
