Airlines in the Lufthansa Group carried more than 19m. passengers in the first quarter

Lufthansa carried more passengers in the first quarter 2010 than in the previous year’s first quarter. In the period January through March, around 12.2 million passengers opted for flights with Lufthansa, an increase of 1.2 per cent on the year-earlier level. During the same period, capacity was raised by 2.2 per cent. Revenue seat-kilometres rose by 3.3 per cent. The seat load factor was up year-on-year by 0.8 percentage points to 75.1 per cent. Passenger numbers went up in all traffic regions, especially in the Middle East/Africa. 

All in all during the year, the airlines in the Lufthansa Group welcomed a total of more than 19 million passengers on board their flights. This was equivalent to a plus of about 26.5 per cent compared with the three months in the previous year. Of the total passenger count, 3.2 million flew with SWISS, 2.1 million with Austrian Airlines and 1.4 million with bmi. The number of flights operated by the airlines in the Group totalled 240,037, an increase of 27.8 per cent. 

Lufthansa Cargo increased their transportation performance considerably and transported around 391,000 tonnes of freight and mail, an increase of 19.3 per cent on the prior-year level. The cargo load factor rose by 14.2 percentage points to 71.8 per cent.
