mia appoints new training provider

The mia Learning & Development Academy is a training resource made available to mia members, which provides training and development tailor-made for professionals working within the meetings, events and hospitality industry.

The meetings industry association (mia) has appointed First Class learning and development as the new training provider for the mia Learning & Development Academy. The appointment, a three year contract beginning February 2014, was made following a comprehensive tender process and a unanimous decision from the mia board and council and will substantially increase the training benefits offered by the Academy.

The mia Learning & Development Academy is a training resource made available to mia members, which provides training and development tailor-made for professionals working within the meetings, events and hospitality industry.

Jane Longhurst, mia Chief Executive comments, “Following presentations from a number of specialist training providers, and a rigorous decision making process, we were most impressed with the ideas, techniques and resources demonstrated by the team at First Class learning and development. The appointment will extend the scope of the mia Learning & Development Academy and our members can see this development as a substantial increase in the benefits the association provides.”

The mia academy will be extended to provide development support throughout organisations, including supervisors and managers, to improve individual performance, team working, sales and profitability. First Class learning and development will work with mia members to analyse needs and agree the best way to provide support. This could be training or consultancy or it may be an improvement to systems or one to one coaching and support. Further expansion of the support available will be made once focus groups and surveys to ascertain members’ needs are conducted in January.

Mel Ashworth, Partner and Business Development Manager, First Class learning and development, comments, “First Class is passionate about promoting excellence in the meetings industry and responding to industry needs, so we are especially excited to be working with the mia and its members. We will work closely with them to improve productivity and customer service, as well as helping them adhere to employment law and health & safety requirements.”
