Budapest Airport reinstates North American long-haul with Air Transat

The direct service also provides higher convenience levels for some 55,000 indirect passengers who were recorded to have travelled between the two cities in 2014.

Budapest Airport welcomed the inaugural flight of its new airline partner, Air Transat, and celebrated a significant stage of its exceptional route network development. Operated by its A330s, the new weekly service from Toronto Pearson Airport (with an in termediate stop at Montreal Airport), marks the return of long-haul flights from the Americas to Budapest, and also sees the third wide-body scheduled service to arrive at the Hungarian gateway since the daily Dubai service from Emirates began last October, and Air China’s Beijing flight in May.


At the official opening ceremony, Budapest Airport’s CEO, Jost Lammers welcomes the arrival of Air Transat’s key new service , commenting: “We are proud to welcome our Canadian partners and launch Air Transat’s necessary direct route from North America to Budapest. Tourism in Budapest is currently outperforming most European markets so we are confident the new flight will be a great success and will soon lead to increase of frequencies.”
