The four star Hotel de la Paix in Lausanne is the latest venue in the city to invest in sustainable initiatives. Following a switch to LED lighting throughout the site, the Hotel de la Paix has reduced its lighting-related electricity consumption by 82%.
Lausanne has seen a number of its venues and hotels invest in energy saving and green initiatives over the last 12 months, including the installation of energy-generating photovoltaic cells at the SwissTech Convention Centre along with investment in an energy efficient heating system at the Hotel Continental Lausanne.
Opened in April 2014, the SwissTech convention centre also incorporated a number of sustainability initiatives. The venue is cooled and heated using water from the nearby Lake Geneva along with the Beau-Rivage Palace hotel and The Olympic Museum which also use water from the lake via a heat pump system to air condition the venue and heat the hotel swimming pool.

Lausanne Tourisme’s Market Manager Aude Cometta says: “We’re really proud of our green credentials here in Lausanne. Our hotels and conference venues are constantly developing their sustainability initiatives in order to offer the best environment for congresses and business events here in Lausanne.”
The city, which won Gold in the European Energy Awards in 2009, also introduced a metro system in 2008 which saw it named as the smallest city in the world to have a metro service along with being the only Swiss city to have a metro system. With a complimentary travel card for all visitors staying overnight in a hotel in Lausanne, the city is dedicated to encouraging tourists and business travellers alike to use the more eco-friendly transport options the city offers.
