GigSky showcased Global Mobile Data Service at Obi Worldphone launch event

Once GigSky SIM is installed in an Obi Worldphone, which has easy-access dual SIM slots, customers tap a button in the GigSky app to purchase commitment-free, short-term data plans using a single account.

SAN FRANCISCO – GigSky of Palo Alto, Calif., the first global mobile network designed for travelers, demonstrated its 90-country coverage via the GigSky SIM and app at a launch of the stylish, new Obi Worldphones at the Autodesk Gallery. The pairing of GigSky’s short-term data plan service on the Obi Worldphones SF1 and SJ1.5 brings a new level of convenience to those looking to stay connected while traveling anywhere in the world.

Obi co-founder John Sculley, Obi co-founder and CEO Neeraj Chauhan, and Obi Worldphone designer Robert Brunner, Ammunition founder and partner, hosted last night’s event introducing the Obi Worldphone SF1 and SJ1.5.

“We’re thrilled to bring GigSky to a generation that thrives on being connected everywhere they go,” said Ravi Rishy-Maharaj, GigSky’s founder and chief executive officer. “GigSky on an Obi Worldphone simplifies the connectivity process from one country to the next, so young travelers can stay in touch with their friends and continue to use their favorite apps, just like they would at home.”

Once GigSky SIM is installed in an Obi Worldphone, which has easy-access dual SIM slots, customers tap a button in the GigSky app to purchase commitment-free, short-term data plans using a single account. This eliminates significant travel hassles, such as buying a local SIM in every country, or experiencing “bill shock” after travel.

“By promoting a well thought out solution like GigSky, alongside the Obi Worldphone SF1 and SJ1.5, we can deliver our customers powerful technology that meets a realistic need in the international landscape – unified and affordable data connections while traveling with a global device,” Chauhan said.
