ICCA UK and Ireland Chapter launches big data tool in the UK with first workshopICCA UK and Ireland Chapter launches Big Data tool in the UK with first workshop

ICCA UK and Ireland Chapter is holding a Big Data Workshop following the introduction of a new Big Data tool to its database to aid members’ association research.

The new Big Data Search gives ICCA members a unique way to identify local representatives who could help them to bid for an international association meeting. Utilising the vast databases of Google Scholar and Microsoft Academic Search, ICCA members can now identify leading academic contacts in specified cities and regions, related to a specific meeting in the ICCA Association Database or a specific meeting subject. Involving local association representatives is crucial for preparing a successful bid to host the next edition of an association’s international meeting.

The workshop, available to ICCA UK and Ireland Chapter members, will take place at The Queen Elizabeth II Conference Centre in London on Thursday 18th September.

ICCA’s Director of Research, Marco Van Itterzon, will provide a general introduction to the database looking at how Big Data can support research. Delegates will learn how to use the available research tools through in-depth demonstrations and case studies. The workshop will also focus on new developments, sophisticated search options, and creative uses of the available data. Attendees will learn about trends in the events industry, get an idea of the potential opportunities and learn how to identify local champions to assist in the bidding process.

ICCA UK and Ireland Chapter’s Chair, Kerrin MacPhie, says: “ICCA’s extensive database is renowned in the industry as a great tool for association meetings and this exciting initiative represents a revolutionary new way of applying Big Data search techniques in the international association meetings market.

“We look forward to welcoming ICCA members to our workshop on 18th September and demonstrating this fantastic new tool.”

The event will be followed by a networking reception at the Trafalgar Hotel in London. The informal evening from 18.30-20.30 will give ICCA members an opportunity to network in addition to hearing the latest food trends in the industry from Leith’s, ICCA UK and Ireland’s catering sponsor.
