Choose the travel period according to the weather forecast
The best periods are from March to May and then from September to December. May can be very hot and the monsoon season is approaching. In any case, you should be prepared for rain as well. On the other hand, the temperature in December can be very low especially during the night (below-zero temperature), but the days remain beautiful and suitable for trekking.

A guide is not compulsory, but it is useful
You can trek without a guide as long as you use orientation means like compass or GPS. On the other hand, there are some advantages if you hire a guide or even a local: for a good price (from US$10 to $20) you can learn many things about the place.

If you book your travel with an agency they will provide a guide throughout the tour.

Be prepared with some simple and efficient exercises
You can never be prepared to trek on extreme hills and up to 5545m of altitude. If you keep your natural rhythm, you will handle it. Before departure, you can get involved into activities like cycling, swimming, walking or hill climbing. Walking up and down the stairs is a good exercise too.

Make sure you don’t carry all your house around
When you are trekking, your luggage should be light (around 10-15 kg) and you should wear adequate clothing and shoes. The necessary stuff is: a fleece jacket, thermal underwear, two pairs of long pants and several T-shirts. In addition, don’t forget to pack a raincoat, gloves, sunglasses, maybe a woolen hat for the evenings.

Footwear should be light as well: broken-in boots, trekking socks, sandals or sneakers. Don’t forget about a sleeping bag, personal hygiene items and emergency medication.
