Now open: The Loutrel, Luxury Boutique Hotel in Charleston

Designed by architecture and design firm Michael Graves, The Loutrel draws inspiration from Charleston’s vibrant gardens and natural landscapes to create a rich design complemented by luxurious, modern comforts.

The Loutrel, a new 50-room luxury hotel, opens its doors on November 1, bringing a chic retreat to Charleston’s historic district. Inspired by the Holy City’s famed gardens, The Loutrel, managed by Charlestowne Hotels, features a porch-inspired lobby and bar, private Clubroom reserved exclusively for hotel guests, rooftop terrace and lush biophilic-inspired design. Marrying Art Deco architecture with Southern charm, and just minutes from the neighborhood’s bustling King Street, The Loutrel brings a fresh perspective to the city for travelers seeking a destination for culture, style and community.

The Loutrel brings a new vision for hospitality to Charleston,” said Gregg Hilker, general manager of The Loutrel. “The property artfully captures both Charleston’s history and the new energy shaping the city today through engaging collaborations and inspired spaces. We look forward to welcoming guests to The Loutrel to enjoy a thoughtful collection of crafted experiences.”

A lush lowcountry retreat
Designed by architecture and design firm Michael Graves, The Loutrel draws inspiration from Charleston’s vibrant gardens and natural landscapes to create a rich design complemented by luxurious, modern comforts. Evoking a sense of timelessness and sophistication, the hotel is immersed in a palette of verdant greens, blues and golds that capture the color and varied light of the Lowcountry, while tactile materials that evoke nature, such as linen, wool and wood, are used throughout the spaces.

Upon entering The Loutrel, guests are greeted by the Veranda Lounge where an expansive bronze and wood accented bar conjures the image of an old ship while beautiful greenery and live citrus trees bring the gardens of Charleston inside. Further tapping into the city’s heritage, a repurposed southern porch swing beckons guests to sit and relax, while an expansive painting capturing the region’s landscape, by local artist Linda Fantuzzo, anchors the room.

Property accommodations include a mix of California king rooms, corner kings with views of the Ravenel bridge or Charleston harbor, five suites, and a premier suite, with many of the rooms featuring balconies. All guest rooms feature luxurious Matouk linens and towels, locally crafted Deep Steep bath amenities, artisanal Lavazza coffee, live botanicals and a soothing color palette of blues and grays. In addition, guests can enjoy a state-of-the-art fitness studio that features a Peloton bike and Life Fitness equipment, and a private dining room that can be reserved for special occasions and events.

Convivial hospitality
The Veranda Lounge brings the signature Charleston front porch experience inside with refreshing botanical inspired cocktails made with locally sourced spirits and a Mediterranean-inspired menu meant for sharing. Hotel guests are greeted upon arrival with The Loutrel’s signature 'Nice to Meet You' Swizzle cocktail, which draws inspiration from the Franco-Italian border. The 'Finest Cocktail Hour' is celebrated daily at the Lounge, with extensive canapé offerings and punch bowl cocktails. In the morning, hotel guests enjoy a refined complimentary European-style breakfast service, featuring fresh local pastries, charcuterie and cheeses.

On the hotel’s mezzanine level, guests have access to a plush private Clubroom, which offers complimentary culinary treats throughout the day, from light fare and snacks to canapes and desserts. In the Clubroom, guests can also find a selection of always available locally made treats, such as cookies from Grey Ghost Bakery and nectars from Les Hesperides, all of which are offered courtesy of the hotel.

On The Loutrel’s rooftop terrace, guests can take in stunning views of The Ravenel Bridge and many of the historic steeples that give the Holy City its name, while enjoying signature cocktails and shareable bites from the Veranda Lounge’s menu delivered right to the terrace. Open exclusively to hotel guests and their visitors, the rooftop offers a highly-sought-after private outdoor space to relax and unwind throughout the day.

Both the Clubroom and the rooftop terrace, in addition to an intimate private dining room off the Veranda Lounge, are available to rent for private events. The Loutrel also offers full hotel buyout packages for groups.

Redefining the guest experience
The Loutrel is singularly focused on ensuring that every hour of the guest experience captures Charleston at its best. Referred to as Charleston’s 'Finest Hour,' this intention is fully realized through the hotel’s thoughtful partnerships, on-site events, high-level of service and extraordinary attention to detail – curating 'experience inclusive' guest stays that captures the spirit of the Holy City. Guests enjoy access to unique Charleston experiences when staying at The Loutrel, such as boating excursions on the Carolina Girl yacht, private tours of Charleston, custom picnics with Picnic Charleston and more.
