How to raise your Spanish level quickly before travelling

Madrid, Spain

Being armed with even the basis of Spanish will ensure that you don’t stumble abroad. Over time, you will learn more and become more fluent. As a result, you will have one more language in your skill-set.

Are you planning on going to Spain soon for work, education, or other myriad reasons? The reasons for travel can be many, but there's one thing you need to ask yourself- do you know Spanish? If the answer is a no or a hesitant yes, then you should brush up on the language. After all, the moment you land, having comprehensive Spanish knowledge will give you an edge over other travellers. So here's how you can learn Spanish quickly before leaving the country:

Enrol in a linguistic institute
There are various kinds of language institutes where the Spanish language is taught over a few months. Over a couple of intensive classes with your peers, you will be able to master the basics of the language. If you already know the basics but want to know further, then there are intermediate stages you can enrol in as well.

Practice listening
If you are in class, listen to your professors’ diction and how they speak. When outside class, listen to Spanish recordings, watch Spanish movies, listen to songs, and such. The more you will listen, the better you will understand the pronunciation, pick up on new words, and learn how grammar works in Spanish.

Change your phone's language
If your phone has a language setting option, then go there and choose Spanish. Having Spanish as the default language on your phone will ensure that you learn the language quickly. After all, you will know what apps are located where, what a particular feature or setting is called, and how to go there. Once you change the language to Spanish, you will learn about app names, how certain words are written, and more easily.

Take private lessons
Taking Spanish private lessons will help you learn faster. One-on-one interaction and learning sessions will ensure that you don't feel shy or intimidated by your peers. Also, the professor will concentrate fully on you and help correct your speech or grammar. Such speedy action will ensure that mistakes don't linger.

Practice the language
Repeat and practise every day what you learned in class. If you are a beginner, then such daily practice will help you retain information better. Do note that flashcards are overrated. When you have the answers right there in your hands, then the urge to flip them and see becomes stronger. As you can imagine, this won't help you retain anything. The solution is to make a list, learn the words, and then take a break. Go on a run, talk to someone, etc. Once you finish that activity, try to speak the words from memory. Now, tick the words you are forgetting; you will have to work harder there. Such a method will help you retain information better.

Being armed with even the basis of Spanish will ensure that you don't stumble abroad. Over time, you will learn more and become more fluent. As a result, you will have one more language in your skill-set.
