Moxy Hotels expands further in Norway

Marriott International’s next-gen traveling brand, Moxy Hotels, is opening a new hotel in Tromsø, the go-to city in Norway to experience the northern lights. The new hotel and its 200 rooms are expected to open late 2021.

Tromsø is a true lifestyle destination for adventurer looking for spectacular experiences in nature. “We are eager to open a unique hotel brand in Norway that differs from the market’s saturation of local brands. The natural beauty of Tromsø is evident, so we have decided to design the reception and common areas on the top floor. This allows all our guests to enjoy the wonderful view from the 11th floor while they have a meal and cocktails from the bar,” says Per Denker Sørensen, CEO of the hotel operator Core Hospitality.

Per, who collaborates with the brand owner, Marriott International, further explains that Moxy Hotels was developed for travelers looking for an affordable hotel stay without compromising on style. “We cater to so-called ‘Fun Hunters’ and will have music and entertainment that is as much for international guests as for the locals,” says Per excitedly.

This project will be the third Moxy hotel to open in Norway and the northernmost Marriott property. Marriott already has one hotel established in Norway, Moxy Oslo X, and another one is being developed in Bergen. The latter will also be operated by Core Hospitality.

“We are very pleased with confirming yet another new Moxy hotel in Norway. Moxy Tromsø will truly be a unique hotel compared to the other hotel chains in the city. We are looking very much forward to operating Marriott’s northernmost hotel,” says Per Denker Sørensen, CEO of Core Hospitality.

Choosing strong partners
Daimyo, the hotel owner and developer, has chosen to develop Moxy Hotels in cooperation with Core Hospitality, the Danish hotel management company that also operates Moxy in Copenhagen and with plans to develop another in Bergen, Norway. A new, international brand will improve the quality of the hotel market in Tromsø and secure the right profile for the property.

“We at Daimyo look forward to growing further in Tromsø and to cooperate with Core Hospitality. Together, we will create an attractive hotel, which will be a great addition to the business community and travel opportunities in Tromsø and northern Norway,” says Anne Aubert, Daimyo.
