Six famous events in Australia to keep an eye on

Sydney Mardi Gras Festival
Sydney is host to the world’s most remarkable celebration of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ) parade. This three-week festival attracts thousands of people annually and consists of over 100 events. It takes place on the first Saturday of March. It is a dazzling sea of glittering floats trailed by a boisterous after-party event that usually goes till dawn. Participants vouch for equality, pride, self-expression, same-sex marriages, and LGBTQ rights. Though the parade is the highlight, other cultural events held over these weeks include:

● The Mardi Gras Party – you can dance the night away.
● The Mardi Gras Film Festival – films and documentaries featured around LGBTQ are screened.
● Fair Day – attracts thousands of people to Victoria Park to buy local wares, sample intercontinental cuisine, and learn more about the LGBTQ community.

Standish Handicap
The Standish Handicap is a Group 3 sprint down the famous Flemington ‘Straight Six’. These horses race along a 1,200 metres turf track. The horse to win this Standish Handicap is entitled to the $160,000 dollar prize. The Standish Handicap began in 1884. The race is currently held at the Flemington Racecourse on Friday, January 1st, 2021. Standish Handicap offers people the chance to bet on any horse that they think will come in first place in the race.

The AFL Grand Final
The AFL Grand Final is a football match with unique rules, unlike ordinary football. This Australian rule football match is held annually on the last Saturday of September at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. Nearly 100,000 fans fill the arena during this event, and a million others watch it from different locations. The Melbourne Cricket Ground has hosted a Billy Graham evangelical rally, a Pope’s service, and a Police concert, to name a few.

This year, however, following the Covid-19 pandemic restrictions, the event will be held at the Gabba, the first time held outside Victoria in 123 years. This decision was based on several fundamentals: integrity, a high-performance environment, safety, and the best environment for all.

The Coolmore Stud Stakes
The Coolmore Stud Stakes, registered as the Ascot Vale Stakes. The race was first run all the way back in 1863. The event is held at the Flemington Racecourse, where three-year-old horses and above cover 1200 metres. It has a very long and interesting history; it is a chance to make a great fashion statement, with a ludicrous hat to match. The Coolmore Stud Stakes Offers $1.5 million in prize money, takes place on Victoria Derby Day held at Flemington Racecourse on the Saturday prior to the Melbourne Cup. 

Formula 1 Australian Grand Prix
The Australian Grand Prix, a motor race currently under contract to host Formula One until 2025, is held annually and attracts the most prominent global stars. The scenic Albert Park, where the Australian Grand Prix is hosted, makes a great setting and the event that much more enjoyable. This event has been held 84 times worldwide from the first one in 1928, according to Wikipedia. Using a blend of the existing roads around the city’s Albert Park, the decision to create a circuit followed a deal to host Formula 1 in Melbourne, signed in 1993. If you are a motorsport fan, this event is a must-attend.

The ATP Cup
The ATP (Association of Tennis Professionals) Cup is an international hard court exclusively men’s tennis tournament between competing nations. Featuring teams from 24 nations, it is the world’s most intriguing tennis event. It is played over ten days in the lead up to the Australian Open. Sydney, Perth, and Brisbane host the group stages competition. The ATP Cup constitutes the most exciting tennis games ever witnessed.
