The Maldives hosts first-ever Travel Trade Maldives 2017 event

Alongside industry meetings, the summit also played host to four panel events, in which more than 80 general managers from resorts and hotels in the Maldives took part.

The inaugural Travel Trade Maldives (TTM) took place in the Maldives from 12 – 13 July 2017, with over 200 tourism professionals in attendance.

Held at Dharubaaruge in the capital of Male, the travel trade show was the first of its kind in the country and attendees included resort and hotel general managers, resident managers, key hotel owners, international travel trade stakeholders and other travel industry professionals. In total, over 3,000 scheduled meetings took place at the show, to discuss business contracts worth more than £776 million ($1 billion) combined.

Alongside industry meetings, the summit also played host to four panel events, in which more than 80 general managers from resorts and hotels in the Maldives took part. In addition, the first ever Tourism Career Fair was also held during TTM at the National Art Gallery, with over 2,000 students and industry professionals meeting with hotels and resorts currently recruiting.

Tourism is an extremely important market to the Maldives and the destination continues to welcome an increasing number of tourists, including a 3.2% rise in UK visitors in June 2017, compared to last year. The Maldives government has therefore announced plans to develop over 50 resorts before the end of 2018, with estimations that the island nation will have over 50,000 beds available to tourists by 2020.

Following the success of the first TTM, the second Travel Trade Maldives show is scheduled to take place over an extended three days from 1 – 3 May 2018.
