38% of travellers willing to head to any port around the world to catch a cruise

The survey provides a fascinating and fun insight into the minds of the cruising public, revealing that price, itinerary and the reputation of the cruise line are the most important aspects to consider when booking a cruise.

COLCHESTER, ESSEX – Independent cruise retailer ROL Cruise has surveyed more than 500 cruise enthusiasts and revealed that the Caribbean is the ultimate dream cruise destination (31%) followed by North America (16.3%) and Europe (9.36%).

In terms of the type of cruises that are proving most popular, ocean cruises come out on top with 47% of the vote, although closely followed by world cruises (36%). While world cruises have also been considered an iconic dream holiday for many, cruise lines are now offering such a variety of world cruise options that they are far more accessible and financially viable than ever before.

Interestingly, 38% of participants also said they’d be willing to travel to any port around the world to catch a cruise. A heart-warming 17% surveyed said they had found love on a cruise holiday, while 7.5% admitted to having a brief liaison or fling.

The survey provides a fascinating and fun insight into the minds of the cruising public, revealing that price, itinerary and the reputation of the cruise line are the most important aspects to consider when booking a cruise.

“We were very excited about conducting this survey and were surprised by some of the results,” said Sarah Wikevand, MD of ROL Cruise. “While we expected the Caribbean to be high on people’s lists of dream holidays, North America was a surprising second place, however, our sales data shows that Alaska and neighbouring Canada remain traveller highlights and people are starting to explore the wider range of options available in the USA.

“It’s fantastic to hear that travellers are venturing further afield on world cruises; it is in many ways the ultimate holiday, with all the comforts of home and the chance to sail to different continents and experience a variety of cultures.

“It is also wonderful to hear that so many travellers are finding love on cruise holidays. We can’t imagine a more romantic way to meet a partner and are so pleased to be part of this journey for so many cruisers.”
